6.  Knowing music theory is essential.
7.  Good
left hand technique is just as important as the right.

9.  Taking the time too sing it first will help you play it later.
10. Getting "good" at guitar is a journey not a destination.

Here is the general outline of the course.

The course will divide the lessons based on the three basic sounds of jazz, Major, Minor & Dominant 7th including altered dominant sounds. Within each sound we will start with the most common keys and offer four parts of study.

Part 1) Scale shapes and construction.  This includes many types of scales (hexatonic, bebop & modes) fingering and picking patterns, economy & sweep picking, slurred fingerings and octave playing patterns.  Combining a visual picture with the overall sound while developing technique will help you develop your ear.

Part 2)  Chord construction and voicings, associating scale and arpeggio patterns with a chord shape. Diatonic harmony is also explored.

Part 3)  Rhythmic filters are applied to scales, arpeggios and chord voicings, giving a musical sense to the chords and scales studied

Part 4)  Memorizing riffs, licks, sequences and complete phrases will help you amass a jazz vocabulary Giving you the language to carry on a musical conversation.

As we process through the 12 keys the 5 areas of the guitar neck based on the CAGED system will be explore.  In other words, the Key of G will be demonstrated in the "E" shape whereas the key "D" will be in the "C" shape.  This will help you be confident in all areas of the neck.
