This 16 bar milestone tune by Oliver Nelson is a great medium tempo head that leads to solos over a C minor blues. The song has a Dorian mode intro vamp that also can serve as an interlude between soloists then again as an ending. In the video Rich demonstrates the intro with a couple of different voicings then moves to the melody in single notes and discusses how interjecting just a few octaves can enhance the melody. Next he harmonizes the melody in stacked fourths which gives the song that jazz "Coolness."
