Originally written as an instrumental composed by Lionel Hampton and Sonny Burke in 1947 and subsequently in 1954, Johnny Mercer wrote lyrics to the song. Because the A section of the song is a haunting 4 bar phrase repeated in descending whole steps it's an simpler song to learn. Learn the first 4 bars and you've got the next 8 bars. Rich harmonizes the first A section in stacked 4ths and altered dominant chords then the second in triple stop thirds. The bridge is also a 4 bar phrase repeated down a whole step.
